The Sox came into the scorching
Dodgers’ house and took 2 of 3 from them with an impressive 8-1 win in the
rubber match Sunday night.
Jake Peavy was absolutely
dominant as he pitched a complete game, his first in a Red Sox uniform, giving
up just 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 5 and walking just one. His only blemish on the night was a 4th
inning homer to Adrian Gonzalez.
The dominance shouldn’t shock
anyone as the former Padre has been stifling Dodger bats for years now. In his career, Peavy is 14-2 with a 2.25 ERA
in 25 starts against Los Angeles. It was
vintage Peavy Sunday night as he commanded the strike zone and kept the potent
Dodger lineup at bay.
Offensively the Sox were on fire scoring 8 times on 12 hits and walking 3 times. They were 3 for 6 with runners in scoring position and everyone on the team had a hit except for Jonny Gomes and Peavy.
Mike Napoli had the big bat on
the day going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. He his his 16th homer of the
season and perhaps is staring to heat up.
Dustin Pedroia went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Shane Victorino went 2 for 4 with 2 runs, an
RBI and his 9th homer of the season.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia added his 11th homer of the year and 2
RBI as well.
Jacoby Ellsbury and Will
Middlebrooks chipped in with a hit apiece and Ellsbury stole his 47th
base of the year. He’s fast approaching
50. Xander Bogaerts went 2 for 4 with an
RBI. He had his first career RBI and double.
With the win, the Sox now have
won 26 series on the year, the most of any team in the Majors. They completed their west coast swing an
impressive 4-2 and head back to Boston with a one game lead in the AL East over
the Rays.
They welcome in the O’s for a
3-game series starting Tuesday with Felix Doubront toeing the rubber against
Wei-Yin Chen.
SHAVING CREAM PIE TO THE FACE –
GAME MVP
Jake Peavy. Although the offense belted out a ton of runs
and hits, Jake Peavy’s first complete game as a Red Sox pitcher takes the
cake. He was dominant all night.
ELBOW TO THE FACE – GAME LVP
Jonny Gomes. Gomes didn’t have any hits and struck out
twice on the night.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Mike Napoli’s 2-run double in the
first to start the scoring in the 1st inning. He would have a big night and started it off
right.
NEXT
Tuesday, August 27th, at home vs.
the Baltimore Orioles.
